Join us for a Japanese Tea Ceremony and Obon Festival

August 29th starting 9:30 AM and continuing until 3 PM

Japanese Tea Ceremony: 9:30
Enjoy a demonstration of Japanese Tea Ceremony and have a cup prepared for you.
Preparing tea in this ceremony means pouring all one’s attention into the predefined movements. The whole process is not about drinking tea, but is about aesthetics, preparing a bowl of tea from one’s heart.
Myoshu Pam Wren has been practicing Tea for over 20 years. She and her students will prepare and serve matcha and sweets to our guests. Space is limited, so an RSVP is required.

Vegetarian Lunch: 12:30

Obon Festival: 1:30
This is a festive occasion with a solemn component to rejoice in community and remember as we celebrate our individual and collective ancestry. Write the name of someone special, draw an image, make a wish – craft supplies will be on hand.

View the Buddha
An 8 foot tall Buddha hand carved in Thailand was recently donated to the center. Come see this remarkable gift.
Entertainment and other festivities will be provided by the members.

RSVP – sign up for the entire day or the festivities you are most interested in.

DONATE – Suggested* donation $20. for the day. Tea teacher donations will be accepted as well.

* “Suggested” amount is only a guide. While Zen Center has very real financial obligations (mortgages, utilities, food, etc.) our primary policy is that our facilities and events are open to all who are interested regardless of the ability to pay. Therefore the amount one contributes or donates is a personal decision based on resources and circumstances and may be less or more in light of these factors.
